I don't write as much about my family as I used to on this blog. But every once in a while I hope you will humor me as I share a little about us! Our family is unique. Our son was diagnosed on the autism spectrum at 4, and this year at age 7 our daughter was diagnosed with ADHD. Our kids are fun loving, friendly, and kind. They are also silly, hyper, and love potty humor WAY to much for my liking, ha! And this year they are going into 3rd Grade. (PS They aren't twins! I shared a little about how they ended up in the same grade a few years ago).
This is also our kids' first year at a new school. Instead of their neighborhood public school, they are attending a charter. Charter schools are still technically public, but get different funding and can do things a little differently. Our new school is smaller, has a higher teacher student ratio (with a full time teaching assistant), and has a whole child focus.
Public school worked for us for a few years, but as the years went on we noticed a few things related to anxiety and academics that needed modification. And (long story short!) we felt a smaller school would be a better fit for our two kids.
Each family has a unique story. And I could never advise a parent to pick private, homeschool, charter, or public without knowing the kids & family really well. Because each family is completely different. Goals are going to look different within each family. And each school is unique. I'm just really thankful we live in a city with options.
It was a joy to send our kids off to school today! We've had a good summer, but they need routine and I know they will like their new school. Its a relief for me to get a little quiet at home. I took our two kids to over 15 doctors, therapy, and testing appointments this summer related to their learning differences and food allergies.
So cheers to back to school! Whether you homeschool, send your kiddos to public, or something in between. I hope you have a wonderful end of summer. I've got some fun things planned on the blog coming up in the next few weeks, so be sure to visit the site again soon!
